The Real Video Editing Fix for Out of Sync Audio
When I have audio sync issues, here's how I've solved it:
- Open a video file and put it on the timeline
- Detach the audio track (right-click and select detach audio): Audio will now appear as a separate timeline
- Use the razor to cut near the beginning of the timeline about 0.5sec in
- Hover over the audio track when you do it. It will give you the impression it will cut the video track but it won't.
- If you zoom into the audio timeline enough, you may be able to see the moment audio start and use that as a visual cue for cutting
- Select and delete the new lead-in audio timeline fragment
- Drag the rest of the audio timeline up to the beginning
- Test audio to be sure it's in sync
Undo and repeat as needed
Acceptable Export Quality
- The default Medium quality (higher than absolute middle quality) under Export Video > Advanced produces video that is acceptable quality once uploaded and processed by YouTube
- Recently, I've found I've been able to move up to the High preset and files aren't that much larger and encoding is still relatively quick (250407)
YouTube vs Encoding Quality
- YouTube will always make your video look worse than your original recording (ie. MKV) or even your encoding you use to upload to YouTube (ie. MP4)
- Here's some examples of a Medium quality video and a Maximum quality encoding on YouTube
