SHO XD Style SimHub Overlays

Description

SHO XD Style SimHub Overlays is a collection of SimHub overlays designed to reproduce the style of the XD overlays (vitumo.de).

Primarily supporting GTR2 but trying to maintain as much compatibility as possible with other SimHub supported games (eg. GT Legends, Race 07, rFactor 2, etc.). All overlays are optional, separate, standalone, resizable, repositionable, and can be mixed-and-matched in SimHub to create a custom HUD.

SimHub works with the Steam version of GTR2 where XD does not. Thank you to Sikjar's XD Junior (see racedepartment.com) as the base and inspiration for these overlays.

  • Please see "README SHO GTR2 XD Style SimHub Overlays.txt" as it contains helpful details on install/uninstall, tips, questions, known/open issues, testing notes, changes, and development notes. You might be reading this file right now: I've included this note here for easy copy&paste to places like Race Department download descriptions.

Goals

- [Reproduce XD Overlays] Reproduce XD UI overlays in SimHub, including Tyre, Leaderboard, and Status overlays

- [Add New Overlays] Add in other modern sim UI elements such as radar, delta bar, shift light, live track map, pedal visuals, and more

- [Flexibility] All overlays are optional, separate, standalone, resizable, repositionable, and can be mixed-and-matched in SimHub to create a custom HUD

- [Compatibility] Maintain as much compatibility with other games as possible. SimHub is designed to be game agnostic which means you could use these overlays in any SimHub supported game you want. While I try to keep it compatible, GTR2 is the only supported game right now and other games may or may not work or may work only partially. Feedback welcome!

Compatibility

- GTR2(*): Full compatibility except for minor known issues

- GT Legends: The important parts are working but some are not (Track/Ambient Temps, Optimal Times, Tyre Pressures, Next/Prev Car, Split Gap(?), Sectors(?). Also, seems you have to load your SimHub Layout after you start the game, not before, otherwise you get some distracting visual weirdness (not a show-stopper though).

- Race 07: Same as GT Legends (similar engine, make sense I guess)

- rFactor 2: Nealy full compatibility (Water/Oil temps missing). Some things better than GTR2 (Ex. Pausing doesn't cause problems).

- Other: If it's a SimHub supported game then at least some things should work, ideally everything. Give it a try!

  • GTR2 is the game the mod is developed against and is the primary supported game although any SimHub supported game should work (in theory)

Latest Release Notes

See README Release Notes section for older versions

Version 17 (2022-08-06..2020-10-25)

Highlights:

  • [Tyres] Reorganized for more compact layout to save space onscreen
  • [Dash Mini Plus] Reorganized elements a little bit. Minor visual improvements/fixes.
  • [WIP] [Torque] Added new Torque overlay to represent percentage wheel torque being sent to your wheel. Used the Pedals overlay style. GTR2-specific for now and not currently 100% accurate due to available data.
  • [WIP] [Wheel] Added new Wheel overlay to show a wheel onscreen rotating as you rotate your physical wheel. Not ready yet, need a proper wheel image.
  • [Various Overlays] Minor visual improvements/fixes

Action Required:

  • [Tyres] Remove and re-add Tyres Overlay in Overlay Layout Editor as physical dimensions have changed and SimHub may poorly render the overlay

Full Release Notes:

  • [Action Required] [Tyres] Remove and re-add Tyres Overlay in Overlay Layout Editor as physical dimensions have changed and SimHub may poorly render the overlay
  • [Tyres] Removed unneeded "TEMPS" labels to create a more compact layout
  • [Tyres] Changed red car background image to a grayscale image to reduce visual busy-ness
  • [Dash Mini Plus] Moved Ahead/Behind elements to the second row as I tend to look at these quite a bit and wanted them more upfront-and-center
  • [Dash Mini Plus] Minor visual improvements/fixes
  • [Position] Minor visual improvements/fixes
  • [Position] Minor visual improvements/fixes. Added row for Lap: This was done for consistency to match height of other overlays that I usually put in the top of the screen.
  • [Leaderboard] Changed to higher Delta precision during Practice and Qualifying as precision is more valuable then versus in a Race.
  • [Map] Minor visual improvements/fixes. Trying to minimize wasted space where possible to gain back space to be used by other overlays.
  • [Relative] Minor visual improvements/fixes. Tiny height adjustment to match Lap Overlay height for visual consistency. Consistent 10px padding. Tiny font size adjustment to fit.
  • [RSplits] Minor visual improvements/fixes. Tiny height adjustment to match Lap Overlay height for visual consistency. Also now has consistent 10px padding.

Requirements

  • SimHub:
    • Works with Steam and non-Steam versions of GTR2
    • Requires windowed mode. I recommend the Crew Chief option which enables automatic fullscreen borderless windowed mode.
    • Uncertain about any limitations depending on which you run
    • Full download and setup instructions in the Install section

Recommended

  • Crew Chief:
    • Fixes some missing telemetry data that SimHub needs for some overlays
    • Provides automatic fullscreen borderless windowed mode option
    • Requires Steam GTR2
    • Full download and setup instructions in the Install section

What is SimHub?

SimHub is a free app that does a lot but for our purposes it allows us to add custom UI elements, controls, widgets, and even fully designed dashes to our sim racing games:

- Download here: https://www.simhubdash.com/

- Discord here: https://discord.gg/nBBMuX7

- Learn how to install it here: YouTube Video

- Full install instructions for these overlays in the README Section "Install/Uninstall"

- Learn how to use SimHub with a series of excellent tutorials here: YouTube Video

- Unlock all features by registering SimHub once you're happy with it. I highly recommend registering as SimHub is excellent software. Donations start as low as ~$6 €/USD as of December 2021. Unlocking gets you: (1) Drive all your arduinos, displays and shakers to up to 60FPS instead of 10FPS, (2) Automatic game switching, (3) Start minimized, (4) No nag screens, and (5) pride in supporting good work!

What is Crew Chief?

Crew Chief is a free app that provides a voice race engineer to give you status updates, act as a spotter for cars beside you or coming up on you, identify damage, indicate time left, tell you lap times, and more. The Crew Chief GTR2 plugin (included in Crew Chief), by The Iron Wolf, also provides enhancements and in-game and telemetry fixes that improve the experience of this mod.

What does SHO stand for?

SHO is the first three letters of my username (Shovas) but also happens to be an acronym used by Ford, which stands for "Super High Output", so I feel it's an appropriately fun acronym for a sim racing mod :)

I think this provides clarity and is a nice compromise that maintains modding freedom while protecting the people that made them from losing credit to their work and against people who would cut out authors from profit from copying it.
