Controller Settings
Tested on PS5 with DualShock 4 controllers
- Steering Sensitivity: 36
- Alleviates overly twitchy steering
- Throttle Saturation: 100
- More than 100 decreases throttle actuation which provides more trigger travel at low throttle which can help better judge low speed throttling
- Increasing this may help avoid spinning the tires under throttle (see TC as an alternative)
- But it also seems to reduce maximum throttle input meaning you accelerate slower
- Brake Saturation: 100
- More than 100 decreases brake actuation which provides more trigger travel at low throttle which can help better judge low speed braking
- Increasing this may help avoiding lockup under heavy braking (but see ABS as an alternative)
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): 1
- Stability Control (SC): 5
- Traction Control (TC): 3
Notes:
- On console I prefer a more arcade driving experience so I prefer assists at a level that help me feel competent driving
- Others who have better controller hand-eye coordination may feel these assists are too high
- Saturation is not Sensitivity:
- Saturation sets the point at which the maximum input is achieved, affecting the range of trigger travel needed for full input.
- Ex. Increased throttle saturation lowers the rate that RPMs increase and therefore slows down the time it takes to get to top speed
- Ex. Increased brake saturation lowers the rate at which brake is applied and therefore the rate at which speed is reduced while brake force is increasing
- This can result in longer braking distances particularly at high speed
- But it may still be advantageous to avoid brake lock up
- Anti-lock Braking System prevents brake lock-up on hard braking
- Stability Control prevents loss of traction by applying brake and modulating engine power
- Traction Control prevents spinning the tyres under heavy throttle
